Ryu ga Gotoku 8 Continues Trend of Making Staple Features Paid DLC

Ryu ga Gotoku 8 (also known as Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth) is going to continue the modern gaming trend of making previously-standard features optional paid DLC, as just like Ryu ga Gotoku 7, it has New Game Plus and difficulties as paid DLC.

The Japanese release of Ryu ga Gotoku 7 (Yakuza: Like a Dragon) originally also had New Game+, and harder difficulties also locked behind DLC, with Western media trashing Sega’s decision. Perhaps as a result, the DLC was made part of the base game with the Western release. However, this time, both the Japanese and Western versions will need separate DLCs to access already standardized features.

Naturally, for the people who managed to spot this during the Ryu ga Gotoku presentation, it caused commotion once again:

Currently, on Steam, the Masters Vacation Pack is listed to be included with the Digital Deluxe edition and Ultimate Editions. Standard version players will likely need to purchase the DLC on their own.

Ryu ga Gotoku 8 releases January 26th, 2024, for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Steam.
