A sudden announcement came tonight with the reveal that producer Hideki Kamiya, one of Platinum Games’ founders and notorious for his habit of blocking ‘Western bugs” on Twitter, is leaving the company in mid-October 2023.
According to Platinum Games, the split is friendly, and they wish Kamiya (pictured above) the best in his future endeavors. Kamiya also confirms he is leaving after a lot of careful consideration of his beliefs. While not mentioned exactly how Platinum Games’ beliefs clashed with Kamiya’s, it should be noted that in the past, Platinum Games stated they would be going all-in on live service games, up until the release of their flopped live service game Babylon’s Fall.
Kamiya previously directed games like Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101 during his tenure as director at Platinum Games, and with his departure, it seems the fate of the former series is up in the air. He was also working on the Ultraman-inspired Project G.G.
